John A. Coke papers, 1862-1864.

Official papers and correspondence, 1862-1864, dealing with his work as enrolling officer. The papers relate to the availability of men for the Confederate army, and include lists of persons with exemptions, deserters, absentees, orders to duty, lists of volunteers, reports of persons examined by the medical board, names of persons serving as substitutes, correspondence, orders, etc. Some material relates to free African Americans. There are also blank forms, ordnance invoices, material relating specifically to the 19th Militia and the 179th Militia, and to Hanover County, as well as to Henrico, Charles City, and New Kent counties.
